BROOKVILLE — After more than 20 years of providing medical services in Franklin County, Fayette Regional Health System is passing the baton to another health organization.

FRHS announced Wednesday morning, in a release, that it had come to an agreement with Margaret Mary Health of Batesville to change ownership of FRHS's HealthPlex on U.S. 52 in Brookville.

The announcement detailed how Margaret Mary Health would assume both ownership and management of the facility effective Oct. 1, with the organization to continue providing urgent and primary care services at the location. The move takes FRHS completely out of Franklin County, where it has had a presence for over two decades.

Part of the reason behind FRHS's selling the complex to Margaret Mary Health, according to FRHS Chief Executive Officer Randy White, is in order for FRHS to place a greater focus on its current needs and services within Fayette County.

The FRHS HealthPlex has been a part of the Brookville community for more than 20 years, and was the town's largest and most up-to-date medical facility. It was expanded by FRHS within the last decade in order to added diagnostic imaging and a full-service lab, along with other services.

“I cannot stress enough how fortunate Fayette Regional is to be working with Margaret Mary,” White said in a statement Wednesday. “In recent months, we’ve analyzed ways to better serve Fayette County and our hometown of Connersville. This agreement will enable us to shift our focus and resources. I think it’s a win-win for Fayette, Franklin and all the surrounding counties.”

Both FRHS and Margaret Mary are working together on the transition, in order to make it as smooth as possible for patients, the announcement stated. Those FRHS staff currently assigned to the HealthPlex will remain during the initial transition, with the expectation that patients will not have any disruptions in their care.

Tim Putnam, president and chief executive officer of Margaret Mary Health, stated that the sale of the facility by FRHS to Margaret Mary will help expands Margaret Mary's services in Franklin County beyond the Batesville area.

"The result of this collaborative effort with Fayette Regional helps Margaret Mary expand and enhance its services in Franklin County,” Putnam stated. “The location and amenities this facility has to offer provides us with an ideal opportunity to better fulfill our mission of caring for families in southeastern Indiana."
