MUNCIE — Delaware County officials will spend another $400,000 to get some use from a $5-million rail spur in an industrial park near Interstate 69.

The rail spur, funded in part with federal money, was completed in 2013 and was intended to transport over-sized wind turbine gearboxes to a nearby rail line.

But Brevini Wind, the company that located in the Park One industrial park in 2008, wasn't able to win contracts to make the gearboxes. Brevini announced in recent weeks that its wind division was closing and its few employees would lose their jobs. The company has paid $375,000 in penalties and will pay another $800,000 this year for failing to create more than 400 jobs.

The commissioners last year found a company, Good Industries of Ohio, that said it would use the rail spur to help local and area companies that need to move huge shipments by rail.
