New Jersey-based Sabert Corp. acquired Mullinix Packages, a Fort Wayne supplier of plastic packaging for the food processing and food services industries.

The purchase of Mullinix from private equity firm Mason Wells, which acquired the business in 2011, was announced today. With the addition of Mullinix, Sabert’s annual, sales will exceed $500 million.

Mullinix is a dominant player in the solid case-ready meat tray market. Its product line includes hinged containers, deli containers, microwavable/ oven-safe trays, drink cups, sleeved cups and trays for the prepared foods markets.

“Joining Sabert is a great opportunity for both our customers and our workforce,” said Gene Gentili, the CEO of Mullinix, in a company statement. “Both companies have a long history of developing innovative solutions and quality products to meet the evolving needs of our long-standing customers.”

Sabert operates facilities in New Jersey, California and Kentucky, as well as manufacturing facilities in Europe and China.

Mullinix, headquartered on Engle Road, has about 350 employees, according to data collected by the Community Research Institute of Indiana University - Purdue University Fort Wayne.
