ELKHART — Work has begun on a $4 million "state-of-the-art" gas station on the southeast corner of C.R. 6 and Cassopolis Street.

Once the home of Chubby Trout, a local steak and seafood restaurant, over the past few months construction crews have been working to clear the site. Chubby Trout reopened at its new location, 3421 Plaza Court just north of the Indiana Toll Road, in November.

Project developer Jay Parekh said that the new 6,000-square-foot gas station is going to be called Pulse and will offer a lot of unique features that other gas stations in the area do not have.

"This is going to be a new concept for Indiana," he said. "The station will have a brick-oven pizzeria, a large candy wall and 15 different flavors of frozen yogurt available. This will be a completely different style of gas station/convenience store."
