MUNCIE — A major employer during Muncie's manufacturing heyday, the BorgWarner plant along Kilgore Avenue has sat empty and unused since 2009. And soon, much of it won't be there at all.

Demolition of much of the million-square-foot-plus building has begun. New owner Jim Wallace, who purchased the property this summer, told The Star Press he plans to leave intact up to 200,000 square feet that is in good condition, but said much of the building was in such bad shape it couldn't be saved thanks to roof problems and vandalism.
