Carrington Haase isn’t unlike a lot of grocery shoppers.

She’s always liked the idea of Whole Foods Market in theory. Haase, 26, wants to eat clean, organic foods as often as possible. Whole Foods has made its reputation by bringing those types of items to more customers. But many people just don’t see the upscale grocery chain as affordable.

Haase, a South Bend resident, falls into that group. She drops into Whole Foods occasionally for a meal from the deli or a few groceries. Otherwise, cost keeps Haase away.

“That’s the reason why I don’t fully grocery shop there,” Haase said. “I know they’re nicknamed ‘Whole Paycheck’ but really they are. It takes a lot of money. It’s kind of silly that I could get almost the same stuff at the farmer’s market.”

That’s why Haase is among the many interested to see how things change at Whole Foods in the coming months.
