ANDERSON – An Indianapolis company plans to breathe new life into one of the city’s oldest industrial properties.

The Anderson City Council on Thursday set a public hearing for Oct. 12 to consider tax abatement requests for Recycled Polymer Solutions to locate at the Elston-Richards property and for longtime Anderson business Barber Manufacturing.

Recycled Polymer Solutions is requesting a five-year tax abatement on a planned investment of $1,123,760 for the purchase and installation of equipment to recycle plastics.

The company plans to hire 10 people at annual salaries of $40,314.

Recycled Polymer Solutions also is requesting a five-year tax abatement to rehabilitate 31,000-square-foot of the existing building at 1301 W. 16th St. in the amount of $119,451.

The company recycles plastic into flakes and pellets that can be made into sheets of plastic to be sold to other companies.

Greg Winkler, executive director of the Anderson Economic Development Department, said the company has purchased all 14 acres.

He said two buildings have been demolished. Winkler said the larger building on the property is a warehouse and the second building will be used by Recycled Polymer Solutions.

The company hopes to start production in October.

Barber Manufacturing is requesting a three-year tax abatement for the purchase and installation of new equipment valued at $83,500.

Barber will create one new job with a salary of $40,000 per year.

In 2015, the City Council approved a similar request from Barber for a three-year tax abatement for the purchase of new equipment.

Barber Manufacturing was granted the tax abatement on personal property taxes for $173,000 worth of new equipment at its 303 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. facility.

Barber planned to create one new job with an average salary of $16.83 per hour and to retain three jobs.

The company has been family-owned since 1894 making springs for the furniture industry.
