GREENSBURG — After more than seven years, the Greensburg/Decatur County Economic Development Corp. (EDC) and its executive director have parted ways.

On Thursday, Marc Coplon said he was asked to resign by the local EDC Board of Directors as executive director.

“I was asked to resign, I complied, and the board said they wanted to go in another direction,” Coplon said. “I wish Greensburg and Decatur County well in their future economic development endeavors.”

The EDC Board released a statement saying, “After serving seven years as executive director of the Greensburg/Decatur Economic Development Corp., Marc Coplon has notified the Board of Directors of his resignation,” the board said in a statement on Friday. “Coplon is leaving to pursue other opportunities in economic development.”

"Appreciate his hard work and what he has done," Mayor Manus said.

According to Coplon, Natasha Kellerman, office and communications coordinator, is also no longer with the EDC.

While Coplon was executive director, the EDC said in a statement that Coplon took an active role in forming relationships with existing businesses, including establishing the first area “Business Appreciation Day.”

Coplon was also part of the I-74 Business Corridor regional marketing group and was involved in both city and county comprehensive plans, hosted the 2013 Southeast Indiana Automotive Industry Expo, helped expand the revolving loan fund with a grant from the USDA, and most recently served on the Stellar Communities Committee responsible for the City of Greensburg’s application to the state program.

With Coplon as executive director, the EDC was also able to obtain a certified gold shovel-ready site, encompassing 550 acres with easy access from I-74, the EDC mentioned.

The board has not announced a replacement, according to Miers.

The Greensburg-Decatur County Economic Development Corporation is a not-for-profit organization funded by local city and county government as well as through investments from private sector organizations.
