LIGONIER — The Ligonier Redevelopment Commission took a step forward with acquiring the parking lot of Al Paraiso Taqueria for its new trail head at its meeting Wednesday.
The restaurant, located at 103 Cavin St., had originally said it would donate the parking lot to the RDC. However, after speaking with the bank, the owner will have to sell the parking lot to the RDC due to still having a mortgage on the property, Mayor Patty Fisel said Wednesday morning.
The board discussed the different surveys and appraisals that would need to be done before the purchase of the lot could move forward.
“We need to know the fair market value of that parcel so an appraisal would need to be done,” City Attorney Steve Clouse said.
The board approved moving forward with getting an appraisal on the portion of the land.
The proposed trail head is part of the RDC’s $1.27 million Strawberry Valley Cultural Trail project that was approved in January 2017. The five-mile loop through the city is in its first phase, which will include upgrading the one-mile gravel jogging track around Kenney Park to a 12-foot-wide asphalt path with a bicycle lane.
