Allen County commissioners spent time Friday dotting the i's and crossing the t's, but unanimously approved for the Huntertown area the largest residential development in recent memory.
Copper Creek, which will bring 677 single-family homes, and The Village of Copper Creek, with 242 rental homes in a duplex configuration, were given the go-ahead by 3-0 votes to approve rezonings.
Ric Zehr of NWM Corp., a Fort Wayne development company, said the developments represent $200 million in construction permits alone. That figure represents 20 percent of the record $1 billion in permits issued last year.
Zehr said the project will generate more than 3,000 construction jobs – and $36 million in taxes in the first year all the homes are occupied.
Also approved Friday was a rezoning to allow an accompanying gas station/convenience store and four outlots for professional office or retail use along the Indiana 3 frontage.
