Notre Dame’s new policy for Notre Dame Stadium will be optional at Saturday’s Blue-Gold Game.

That won’t be the case for the Irish football team’s season opener Sept. 1 against Michigan, however. That’s when the new clear bag policy becomes official for not only ND Stadium, but for all reserve-ticketed events, including concerts, for Purcell Pavilion and the Compton Family Ice Arena as well.

• The policy allows for only clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags that don’t exceed 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches, or a one-gallon clear plastic bag such as Ziploc or Glad.

• The bags may have a logo on them, but no larger than 4 inches by 3.4 inches.

• Small clutches — 4½ inches by 6 inches, or approximately the size of a hand —also will be permitted to be taken into the stadium.

• Exceptions will be made for approved medical bags or equipment, which will be inspected at designated gates.

• Seat cushions, measuring 16 inches by 16 inches are permitted, as are binoculars and cameras without cases. Blankets will be allowed too, but will be subject to search.
