The Martinsville Board of Public Works and Safety approved an agreement with the Morgan County Economic Development Corp. (EDC) on Monday during its meeting.

During the board’s meeting on May 21, it was decided to table discussion of the EDC agreement so that the members of the city council could to review the agreement.

Martinsville Mayor Shannon Kohl said there have already been two $15,000 payments made from the city to the EDC in 2018.

“I am uncomfortable with not having a ratified contract, and we have paid half of it,” Kohl said.

She asked the members of the board to go ahead and approve the contract.

Before the vote, Martinsville Clerk-Treasurer Becky Tumey asked that the contract be made retroactive to Jan. 1 of this year.

Board member Eric Bowlen made the motion, and it was approved 3-0.

The approved contract is for $60,000.
