A metals company in New Haven is planning its second multimillion-dollar expansion in as many years and is seeking tax abatements to pay for new equipment and other improvements.
Superior Aluminum Alloys will spend $6 million on real estate improvements and more than $7 million on new equipment at the plant on Edgerton Road. Five new jobs with average salaries of $24,500 are expected to be created.
An application the company filed with the city seeks approvals that would save $716,705 in taxes on real estate and $354,034 in equipment taxes during a 10-year period.
Superior Aluminum announced plans in 2017 to invest $13 million in new equipment and improvements at its plant. The company recycles scrap aluminum into alloys used in vehicle manufacturing.
