Indiana’s population will grow by roughly 660,000 residents between 2015 and 2050, according to the Indiana Business Research Center. That’s a 10 percent increase over a 35-year stretch.

Indiana’s six fastest growing counties — Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson and Marion — were in the Indianapolis metro area.

“In Indiana in general, population growth in general is driven by a handful of metropolitan areas,” said Matt Kinghorn, senior demographic analyst at the Indiana Business Research Center.

Bloomington is Indiana’s seventh-largest city, with a population of 85,071. Fishers is the sixth-largest, at 91,832, and Hammond is eighth-largest, at 76,618.

“For Bloomington, it was more of the same,” Kinghorn said. “About 670 (new) residents last year, just a hair above its average growth of 640.”
