MUNCIE - Plans to bring upwards of 300 jobs to Muncie were unveiled Thursday during a joint news conference held by a local construction and maintenance company and city and state officials.

ASONS will invest $2.3 million for a new headquarters facility and a more expansive workforce, chief executive officer Steve Helser said during the conference.

"We are now in our fourth (building) in Muncie, and proudly looking for our fifth," Helser said.

The expansion of the company was touted as a sign of progress in the city by Gov. Mike Pence and city mayor Dennis Tyler, both of whom spoke at the event.

According to Pence, Muncie is a city "on the move," and companies like ASONS are the reasons it's beginning to make a comeback.

"Muncie is a community I know well ... this is a place where great people and great ideas have been coming together for generations," Pence told about 60 people assembled at the announcement at the company's current headquarters in the former Moose Lodge on Riggin Road. "ASONS is just the latest chapter (for this city)."
