NEW ORLEANS — The last temporary housing unit used during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina has left Orleans Parish in Louisiana. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the last household in the community living in a unit moved into their rebuilt home Feb. 8.
In response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, FEMA conducted the largest housing operation in history, providing temporary housing units (travel trailers, mobile homes and park models) to about 92,000 families throughout Louisiana. Many of those units were produced in Elkhart County, Ind.
