GOSHEN — A $3.8 million boutique hotel and brew pub is proposed for a portion of the historic Hawks building along Goshen’s millrace.
Hawks 1886 LLC, a local development company, would like to purchase the north portion of the building to construct the two businesses. The proposal was given to the Goshen Redevelopment Commission Tuesday, which decided to gather more information on the project and hold a special meeting on it in the coming weeks.
The building was sold by the commission to social services agency LaCasa Inc., which has begun redeveloping the south end of the building into living and work spaces for artists.
The new proposal calls for the first floor on the building’s north side to be converted into an area of indoor pub seating as well as an outdoor patio. The hotel would then cover the second and third floors with a total of 25 unique, boutique-style hotel rooms. The business would be named the Artifax Hotel and Hydraulic Ale Works.
Hawks 1886 is asking the commission to grant a 10-year tax abatement and other incentives for its project at the building, which is at 215 W. Madison St.
