Streamlining the application process and making it easier for students to apply to multiple campuses are two ways Indiana University could alleviate some of the stress of starting college, according to IU officials.

Indiana University’s Board of Trustees last month suggested that IU’s application process could be improved.

“The application process is overwhelming,” said student Trustee Anna Williams. “We cannot ask students who are already particularly stressed and nervous to overcome this issue because of a systematic lack of integration that we have.”

Currently, students who apply to IU have to apply separately to each campus that interests them. Several board members worried a rejection from IU’s Bloomington campus would discourage potential students from applying to one of IU’s regional campuses.

“The board was concerned that perhaps it should just be one acceptance or denial,” said Trustee Andy Mohr.

Of Indiana residents who were denied admission to IUB this fall, 40.3 percent applied to another one of IU’s campuses. And almost half of that 40.3 percent were accepted.
