Local officials can’t stop construction of Interstate 69 to Ind. 37 in Monroe County, but they can influence how the interstate looks as it turns north and heads toward Indianapolis.

Those were two takeaways from Wednesday’s summit meeting between local policy makers and representatives of the Federal Highway Administration and the Indiana Department of Transportation.

A subcommittee of the Bloomington/Monroe County Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Policy Committee has been gathering information about I-69 and what input local officials can have on the project. The full policy committee is scheduled to meet on Nov. 4, when it could vote on an INDOT request to include I-69 construction and other activities in the local transportation improvement program (TIP).
