With the holidays right around the corner, the Shelbyville City Council was in a giving mood during its meeting Monday morning.
The council voted 5-0 in favor of four abatements for Shelbyville companies.
The first abatement was for PK USA, for new manufacturing equipment, new logistical distribution equipment and new information technology equipment.
Peter DePrez, attorney representing PK USA, told the council the abatement was for PK's "ongoing revamping."
The abatement is for $5.6 million and will be extended out over 11 years.
In addition, council voted for an abatement for KN Platech for the amount of $1 million for improvements. According to Stephen E. Schrumpf, attorney for KN Platech, the company intends to purchase and install new manufacturing equipment to support additional production for a growing customer base. KN Platech also looks to increase the current workforce by 10 employees, according to Schrumpf.
Council granted an abatement to Plastic Moldings Corp. for new manufacturing equipment.
No new jobs will be created by the work, and the investment is to maintain the current workforce.
President Lisa Jennings said "jobs would be reduced if this investment was not made."
The final abatement was to Freudenberg-NOK in the amount of $6.8 million.
Jeff Clark, plant manager of the Shelbyville location, said the upgrades would be for the Shelbyville location only and would not have an impact on the Morristown plant.
"It is for continued improvements to the facility," Clark said of the request.
It intends to purchase and install new manufacturing equipment to support additional production for a growing customer base and anticipates an increase in workforce by 17.
