Administrators at Logansport State Hospital met with laundry workers on Wednesday to announce that the hospital's laundry operation would soon be shutting down.

Dennis Rosebrough, communications director for the Division of Family and Social Services, said the service would be moved to a division of the Indiana Department of Correction, eliminating 12 of the 17 jobs now associated with the hospital's laundry service. Those 12 workers, he said, will have a chance to move into other positions at the hospital or in other state offices.

"We're hopeful and reasonably confident that nobody's going to be left without a job," he said.

Rosebrough said the move would produce immediate savings of about $250,000 a year. In addition, he said, the hospital will save money on equipment upgrades it would have had to make down the road.
