EVANSVILLE - Evansville Regional Airport, which is on the cusp of a major terminal renovation project, continues to show upward trends in usage.

Although passenger boardings were down from September 2017 (17,367) compared to September 2016 (18,531), overall boardings for the year have increased.

EVV has seen 162,166 boardings this year, up 4.19 percent from 155,649 a year ago. The decline in September was mostly due to Hurricane Irma, according to airport officials.

The terminal renovation project will have a kickoff event on Wednesday, featuring Gov. Eric Holcomb and local leaders.

The airport is constructing an addition that will house its administrative offices and boardroom; the airport’s parking

area is being updated with LED lights, new paving and new canopies; and the terminal itself is being remodeled.

Once finished, the airport will have one security line as opposed to the two currently in use. It also will have an updated food service arrangement and more amenities for families and children.

The project’s $12.36 million cost includes $5 million from Indiana’s Regional Cities program.

EVV Manager Doug Joest said work has already started on the new administrative office and exterior parts of the project.

A construction contract has been awarded for interior work at the terminal, and Joest said it will likely start by the end of the year. Updated renderings of the interior will be made available Wednesday, according to EVV.
