Officials, business owners talk about downtown Muncie's future

Keith Roysdon, Star Press Business Editor

MUNCIE -- Charles Street downtown is looking lonely of late.

White River Landing, the once-popular restaurant that has been closed for more than a month, offers only dark windows along Charles Street while its owner tries to decide if he should reopen.

Cassella's Kitchen, an upscale housewares store at the corner of Charles and Walnut streets, is going out of business as its owners plan to move out of state. Many of the store's colorful cooking pots and implements have already been sold, and bins containing smaller items are arrayed on tables just inside the windows.
