New egg carton manufacturer receives abatement from Newton County

Newton County Enterprise

By Brad Lemna, Newton County Enterprise Correspondent

Egg cartons made from mostly recycled materials will soon be the newest addition to Newton County's manufacturing base, as the Newton County Council and Commissioners approved a tax abatement to INIG Inc. last week to aid in their quest to conduct business at the proposed Newton County Energy Park situated close to the landfill near Brook.

INIG has already broken ground on an $18 million facility there that will manufacture corrugated cardboard material made primarily for egg cartons comprised mostly from used newsprint and cardboard, adding up to a projected use of 48 million tons per year of these recyclables.

Wooed by the added incentive of being able to draw on recycled methane from the landfill at bargain rates, INIG, Inc. came to the monthly joint meeting of the council and commissioners seeking the abatement.

"We hope - suspect - this will generate 60 new jobs for the community," said INIG attorney Steve Ryan.
