Lutheran Health Network plans to build a downtown replacement for St. Joseph Hospital, officials announced today.

Details, including where the hospital will be built, how big it will be and how much it will cost, weren't included in the announcement. It's likely they haven't been decided.

But Lutheran network officials have decided a new multi-story hospital, supporting medical facilities, and convenient parking are needed. Construction could begin as soon as next year.

"The current facility, which has gone through many physical changes over the years, has limitations that make it more difficult to add today's medical advancements and create an optimal environment for staff to deliver the experience patients need and expect," officials said in a news release.

It's unclear what will happen to the current St. Joseph campus and what medical services the new hospital will offer.
