For the first time in the county’s history, residents raised more than $250,000 during the 2011 Boone County United Way campaign.

The fundraising total — $254,125 — was announced Wednesday morning at the United Way of Boone County celebration at Boone Meadow Elementary School. The campaign was chaired by Rick Elsbury and Katie Richman.

“In 1999, our goal was $89,000, so you can see just how far we’ve come in those few short years,” said Greta Sanderson, UWBC board chairwoman. “It’s a quantum leap.”

Ellen Annala, president and CEO of the United Way of Central Indiana, said Boone County’s board is the strongest board the UWCI has.
