A final decision to proceed with the closing of the Madison-Milton bridge for five days was made Monday.

"We're moving ahead with the bridge closure as planned," Kentucky Transportation Cabinet project manager Andy Barber said in a press release. "As of today, the forecast calls for some rain on Wednesday, but otherwise it looks good for construction activities."

The bridge will be closed at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday and is scheduled to reopen at 12:01 a.m. Monday. When the bridge reopens, there will be a 36-foot vehicle length restriction due to the limited turn radius of the temporary ramps, the project team said. The existing 3-ton weight limit for the bridge will remain.

During the closure, Walsh Construction crews will work around the clock to remove the bridge approaches at both ends, including the concrete roadway and the supporting steel structure beneath it.
