Orthopedics manufacturer Zimmer Holdings Inc. plans to lay off 100 workers at its Warsaw headquarters as it reduces the number of employees worldwide.

The overall reductions are intended to help the company position itself for long-term growth, according to a company statement. Positions will be eliminated in some areas and increased in others to support company priorities. The statement did not indicate which divisions were affected.

There are more than 2,800 Zimmer employees in Warsaw. In the statement, Zimmer said less than 5 percent of its 8,500 employees worldwide were affected by the layoffs.

Zimmer produces and sells orthopedic implants and surgical products.
