The Frankfort Municipal Airport didn't have any planes land for the Super Bowl, but Indiana's Montgomery Aviation did see a large influx of customers at its Indianapolis airport.

Montgomery Aviation, the fixed base operator of Frankfort, Grissom and the Indianapolis Executive airports, processed more than 90 planes on Super Bowl day. To accommodate the crowd, 100 volunteers, some of which were Frankfort residents and board members, went to the Indianapolis location to help.

"We're very thankful for all of our volunteers," said Operations Manager Bobby Beem.

Board Vice President John Hinshaw, who also volunteered that day, said Montgomery Aviation "did a fantastic job with departures" and coordinated 50 plane departures in three hours.

"It was complete organized chaos," Hinshaw said.

Beem said there were a number of calls to the Frankfort airport asking if they could land there, but Frankfort didn't have the de-icing equipment to fully service the planes. In order to de-ice, there must be a tank to collect fluid run-off, which Frankfort doesn't have.

Beem said a de-icing station would be a good improvement project for the airport and would bring more business.

At their other location, they sold 3,300 gallons of de-icing fluid for the Super Bowl because of weather conditions.
