In the next few weeks, several road closures expected to last at least until the end of the year will begin.

Those closures, along with a few others that won’t last as long, are necessary to allow I-69 Development Partners to convert the 21 miles of Ind. 37 from Bloomington to Martinsville into Interstate 69. The goal is to have the entire project completed by the end of 2016.

That means several roads will close and lanes will shift at the same time, but I-69 Development Partners is hoping to minimize traffic issues.

“As with any construction, there will be a few inconveniences and headaches along the way,” said Brad Faris, traffic manager. “But the hope is once it’s done it will be a much improved system.”

Many of those improvements involve replacing stoplights on Ind. 37 through Bloomington with overpasses and interchanges. One of those interchanges will be the intersection of Ind. 37 and Fullerton Pike near Monroe Hospital.

Fullerton Pike, from Sharon Drive on the west side of Ind. 37 to Rockport Road on the east side of Ind. 37, is scheduled to be closed on or after July 11 and remain closed through Dec. 31. The road will not close until after the Rockport Road overpass is completed, according to a news release from I-69 Development Partners. The overpass, along with a new connector for That Road, will be part of the detour route.
