LOUISVILLE — Five contracting teams have submitted proposals to be the builder for the downtown portion of the Ohio River Bridges Project.

The contracting teams responded to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s request-for-qualification, which was due Monday. The winning team will be tasked with building the state’s $1.3 billion portion of the bridges project, a new Interstate 65 bridge, the Indiana approach and reconstruct Spaghetti Junction.

The list of contractors includes: Cross River Constructors LLC, a joint venture of Fluor Enterprises Inc., Acciona Infraestructuras S.A. and The Lane Construction Company; Kentucky Indiana Bridge Partners, a joint venture by Bechtel Infrastructure Corp. and Tutor Perini Corp.; Ohio River Transportation Constructors, a joint venture of Kiewit Infrastructure Co., Evansville-based Traylor Brothers Inc., Kokosing Construction Co. Inc. and Massman Construction Co.; Skanska, Flatiron, Dragados USA; and Walsh Construction Company.

A Kentucky Transportation Cabinet review committee will narrow the list of teams to three finalists by April 16, according to its website.

The selection criteria will include proven experience, innovative ideas, inclusion of minorities and women in the workforce and ability to deliver the best value on schedule, according to an Ohio River Bridges Project press release. Teams will spend the summer developing specific proposals that will include innovative concepts, technical designs and cost details.

The schedule calls for the winning team to be selected in October in order for construction work to begin before the end of the year, according to the press release.
