SOUTH BEND - Nick Linarello just assumed the Indiana General Assembly would ban smoking in bars this year.

Hoosier lawmakers have debated a statewide ban on smoking in public places every year since 2007, and by all accounts this was going to be the year they passed it.

Linarello, whose family has owned Frank’s Place since the 1970s on the north end of downtown, was ready for the smoking ban. He was even looking forward to it.
