MUNCIE − Accutech Systems Corporation has purchased Vera Mae's Bistro as the number of downtown properties owned by the Muncie-based tech company continues to grow.

Vera Mae's opened in 1999 as a lunch delivery and catering business but grew to establish itself as one of the most popular and well regarded restaurants in the area. Over the years it became known for hosting family celebrations. Its owners, Kent Shuff and Steve Fennimore, renovated 209 S. Walnut St. and opened their business there before much of the redevelopment of the downtown district had yet to occur.

Vera Mae's, which also includes a catering service, will continue to operate under new ownership.

In a release published in The Muncie Journal, written by Accutech executive Scott Smalstig, director of community growth for the company, he quoted Accutech President Adam Unger as saying the purchase fits with the company's mission of “making great things happen for other people.”
