ANDERSON - Madison County Commissioners approved an ordinance establishing land use requirements for wind energy farms Tuesday.

E.ON U.S., a wind energy company, is interested in constructing a wind farm north of Elwood that would include hundreds of wind turbines.

The company is currently doing a weather study of wind speeds in the area, which is not expected to be completed for another two years.

The ordinance, according to Commissioner Paul Wilson, has been modeled after ordinances concerning the Benton County wind farm and establishes rules and setbacks for wind farms in case E.On's study shows that the county is suitable for a wind farm.
