Local government workers, such as firefighters and police officers, would no longer be allowed to hold an elected office in the same unit of government that employs them.

People who work for cities, counties, towns and townships also would
no longer be allowed, in many circumstances, to hold jobs where their relatives are their supervisors.

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels has pushed for such restrictions since 2007, when a commission led by former Gov. Joe Kernan and state Supreme Court Justice Randall Shepard concluded they would reduce conflicts of interest and nepotism in local government.
