INDIANAPOLIS | The Indiana House is expected to consent next week to changes the Senate made to legislation banning local government employees from serving as elected officials of the governments they work for.

State Rep. Kevin Mahan, R-Hartford City, the sponsor, said he will ask the House to concur with the Senate-approved version of House Bill 1005, which would send it to the governor.

The legislation declares a local government employee automatically resigns his or her job upon taking elected office for the government he or she works for.

It also prohibits a local government employee from directly supervising a relative in a local government job.
