Consumer confidence continues to rise and with it another positive month for RV shipments.

In its most recent market update, the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association reported that the steady increase of RV shipments continued through the first quarter of this year. According to the March survey of manufacturers, shipments for the first quarter climbed to just more than 97,000 units, almost 8 percent ahead of last year.

Wholesale shipments of all RV types for March jumped more than 8 percent to 36,535, the best numbers for the month since 2007, according to the RVIA, which is now projecting that annual shipments could reach 387,000 this year.

What's continuing to drive totals up is simple, Kevin Broom, with RVIA, said — consumer demand. With the improving economy, he said, interest rates are low and credit is once again available. Broom said consumer demand had increased so much, many manufacturers reported barely being able to supply dealers fast enough, with some dealers even having backlogged orders.
