Winnebago gets more tax breaks from Middlebury

A subsidiary of Iowa-based Winnebago Industries, the company purchased four facilities in Middlebury and plans to invest almost $300,000 in equipment over the next few years. The council approved the abatement because it is a relatively small investment from the town for a large job and salary boost for the area, Craig Buche, council attorney, said.

Winnebago expects to create 150 new jobs by 2019, totaling an estimated $10.9 million in salaries, Buche said. Winnebago is currently hiring for manufacturing positions. Interested applicants may apply online at http://winnebagoind.com/company/careers.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. also offered up to about $1.9 million in conditional tax credits and up to $75,000 in training grants based on the company’s job creation plans.
