Jamestown and the Boone County Commissioners have agreed to cooperate in hopes of convincing auto parts manufacturer Fukai Toyotetsu Indiana Corp. to build a plant on Indiana 75 near Interstate 74.
The Jamestown Town Council and the commissioners have agreed to combine their efforts to create an economic development area, one of the steps necessary before Toyotetsu could be offered tax abatement and other incentives to build in Boone.
On July 1, the Jamestown Town Council unanimously adopted a resolution agreeing to cooperate with the commissioners, who signed the agreement Monday.
“The company has tabled the decision, probably for another week,” Commissioner Jeff Wolfe said Monday. “We think that decision will be coming fairly quickly.”
The resolution “just solidifies” the agreement between the county and Jamestown, Wolfe said. Cooperation between the town and the county “has been outstanding,” he said.
Jamestown has approved rezoning of the 40-acre site, which is at the southwest corner of the Ind. 75-Old Union Road intersection, from agriculture to industrial.
If Toyotetsu agrees to build the plant, Jamestown would provide water and sanitary sewer service, build a two-lane road on the north side of the property, install fire hydrants, and provide other services.
Fukai Toyotetsu Indiana Corp. was established earlier this year; Toyotetsu America, Inc., makes suspension, frame and other parts for Toyota vehicles made in the U.S.
