A proposal to reorganize Monroe County government met with resistance from county employees Monday, but proponents say the proposal is just a starting place for discussions.

Several department heads who met with members of the Monroe County Council and Monroe County commissioners Monday expressed concern about the practical aspects of a reorganization suggested by officials late last month. But council members Vic Kelson and Geoff McKim and Commissioner Mark Stoops, who did the bulk of the talking about the proposal at Monday’s meeting, said the proposal is just the beginning of many conversations with county employees to help come up with a workable plan.

“We want to make sure we let the solution emerge that both elected and appointed department heads can work with,” McKim said after Monday’s meeting. “We want to make sure we create a process that lets their voices be heard and used in developing the solutions.”
